After establishing the basic organizational, administrative, and training aspects of S.O.S. (Washington-based headquarters, costumes, ranks, Martian-saucer transportation, etc.) over several months, the team is sent on their first mission - to investigate sections of American land that are being replaced by portions of "Darkworld," a war-ravaged planet ruled by the villanous Darklord. In a battle with Darklord, Dragon and Smasher are separated from the rest of the team - they discover a modern Coke machine amidst a section of Darkworld's ruins, and conclude that Darkworld is in fact the Earth... Meanwhile, Horde posesses the vegetative Mace, and it is revealed that William Johnson and Rita Medermade have gone missing.
